Sweety and Chip are Slates. Sweety is from Port Angeles,
Chip
is the son of Boomer and
Feep. Sweety has a tiny, high-pitched voice that makes me
laugh. They are a very cute couple.
Crumpette and Minie are Olives from the Santa Cruz
flock.
Crumpette is THE hotdog
flyer in the flock.
The faster and crazier, the better. Minie is a sweet and gentle
hen
but tends to be overambitious when
she preens her chicks. They have Olive and Slate
babies.
Einstein and Jock are Slates. Einstein, as the name implies,
is a very smart hen who likes
to take things apart as a hobby. Jock is a happy and friendly
little guy. They are from the
Santa Cruz flock.
Lulu is a bright green Peachface from the Scotts Valley, CA
flock
and
Boodah is
from Santa Cruz. Boodah is an Olive and the son of Boomer and
Feep. The photo
doesn't do them
justice.
Lulu is very very quiet and Boodah is fun,
friendly and
likes to follow people around the house.
Lulu holds the flock record for most "twigs" stowed - 14!
Scooter and Quazi are the imports to the flock. Scooter is a
scoundrel
and will try to mate with everyone else's hens. Quazi is
very friendly
towards people but a real bully around the young chicks. They're
from Nancy's Port
Angeles flock.
Henlet and Chicklet
Chicklet was the one with the two broken legs and Henlet
is his sister. They were
born into our flock and spent a few months with Nancy, the
breeder. Chicklet has
been a real sweetie through all that
he's been through. He's gotten so perky and fun!
Henlet just came back to the flock from her adventure in the real world
and is both
cute and snuggly - and cranky. It looks like she's coming into
"henhood".
Bonk!
Pinky and Graybie
Pinkie and Graybie
are
brothers and are Crumpette and Mini's kids. They're
cute but clueless. They remind me of the SNL skit of the "two
wild and crazy
guys" - they think that they are hot but can't seem to get it together.
Rosie and Neinei
They are a new couple that seem to be getting along really
well. Neinei is the son of Boomer and Feep.
Rosie is a
rescue hen from an assisted-living place where she was
paired with another hen - with violent results. Rosey was
one
of the two hens who figured out that they could hide their new eggs
under the bedding in their nests. That's how the latest chicks
came about...
Dorien Gray (Dorie) and Sweetcheeks
They are Boomer and Feep's youngest, and probably last,
babies. Even though
Dorie hasn't even gotten her adult feathers yet, she is being the total
hen.
She say's the hen-word "toytoy" and has been presenting to Pinkie, but
Pinkie is too clueless. It all makes her very
frustrated. Dorie has learned to
say "hello" from her Mom, Feep. Dorie's son, Blueboy, was
fathered
by Scooter. Dorie is the other hen who figured out how to
hide her eggs
in her nest. Oddly, Dorie lives next door to Rosey (the
other egg hider)
and her chick was born 15 minutes before Rosey's first hidden egg
hatched.
It really makes me wonder.
And there's also
The Bigs. Aki is no longer with us, but here's
a picture of them from happier times -
Aki, Birdy and Squeek
Birdy is now 28 years old. He is pretty much only friendly
to Squeek and me.
Squeek is the bird with two personalities - one, a demure little bird
and the
other is a drunk sailor who likes to rant in
"Squeeky-speak". Squeek also
likes to keep in touch with us when we're in other parts of the house
by making
really loud kissey sounds and expecting us to kiss back at him.
